April 4, 2003 No Vol. or Issue Number “Widener Alumni Makes A Difference For Young Parents” Marcell Banks Blair, a School of Social Work graduate, is now the program coordinator for Young Parents Support Network, a group working with teen parents. “Little Shop of Horrors Soon To Be Open To Public” The Theatre Widener Acting Company production runs April 10th through 13th. “Widener Reads To Chester” The Widener Reads Program is a work study position tutoring children in local elementary schools. “Harris For a Day” Student to be selected who will change places with President Harris for a day. “C.A.B. Confessions” Report of campus activities. “Widener Briefs…Not Boxers” Summaries of Widener news and student organization activities. Honors Week 2003 “Honors Week: An Overview” This is the time when Widener celebrates students’ academic achievements. The events were on March 17 through March 21. “Science Awards Ceremony” Science majors with a 3.25 GPA or higher were honored. Some were inducted into honors societies. “Phi Kappa Phi Inductions” A national honor society for high scholastic achievement inducted new members. “Students Present Research Findings” Presentations were March 18 through 21 in Webb Room. “Happenings” April Calendar. “Traditional April Fool’s Day Supplement” Features stories of Godzilla at Widener, surveillance cameras in school bathrooms, President Harris revealed to be squirrels in a man-suit and fake personal ads. America Goes To War “Controversy Surrounds Wars” “Protests Around the World Over War” “A Call To Arms” Widener alumnus writes to his fraternity while preparing to deploy overseas. “Writer’s Block” Works by Widener students. “Letters from Sea: India” One of series of reports written by a student on her Semester at Sea experience in India. Women’s History Month Coverage “Gayle Stahlhuth in ‘Lou: The Remarkable Miss Alcott’” One woman show about life of Louisa May Alcott. “Mary Leftridge Byrd Speaks Out” Warden at State Correctional Institution in Chester speaks on importance of family to prisoners.
