The George Raymond Papers were donated to the Widener University Archives by the George Raymond Family. George Raymond was President of the Chester Branch of the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) for nearly 25 years, from the 1940s to the 1980s. This box includes: Scrapbook of clippings and photographs that chronicle the Chester Civil Rights movement during the 1950s and 1960s. Excerpt from “Ruling Suburbia” by John McLarnon Delaware County Yearbook 1964 “Politics and Prejudice” by Richard Harris NAAP Constitution and By-Laws for Branches 1956 Esquire Magazine’s 1945 Jazz Book Photograph of John Kennedy and his family Materials donated later by the George Raymond family include: NAACP Chester Branch 100th Anniversary Booklet, also called a Souvenir Booklet, that was created for the annual dinner of the Chester Brand of the NAACP. Booklet created for the 101st annual dinner of the Chester Branch of the NAACP Booklet created for the 102nd annual dinner of the Chester Branch of the NAACP at which Widener University Archivists Jan Alexander and Jill Borin received the George T. Raymond Freedom Award for their work in preserving and digitizing the George Raymond papers. Article about Jan Alexander and Jill Borin receiving this award. The Widener archives also received the Leedom B. Morrison Award from the Heritage Commission of Delaware County for the George Raymond Papers project. Includes ticket to the dinner. NAACP Constitution, 2005 Materials from the reception in 2009 at Widener to honor the Raymond Family and also to formally announce the availability of the George Raymond Papers as an historical resource. Includes a CD of pictures taken at the reception.
