October 31, 2008 Vol. 11 No. 4 “Senator Obama Visits Widener” Senator Obama visited Widener campus on October 28th. He addressed a rain-soaked crowd estimated at 8,000. Story includes two color photos of the Senator Obama speaking with a large number of people in the background. “Braving the Rain For Politics” Story discusses some of the problems and inconvenience due to security and weather conditions. Included color photo of Rusesabagina. “Feed the Hungry” Food drive on campus to collect food in bins at various campus locations for the hungry in Chester. Political Press “Obama vs. McCain: The Facts” Chart showing positions of candidates on major issues. “Varying Positions on the Obama Event” Complaints, comments and complements on the handling of the event. “The Democratic Donkey and the Republican Elephant” Story behind the symbols. “Obama’s Rally for Change” Some of the reasons Mr. Obama chose to visit Widener. Apartments are available with discounts for Widener students and staff. “PRSSA visits Detroit for Conference” Members of Widener’s Public Relations Student Society Of America chapter attended the annual conference in Detroit. “Remember to (REGISTER TO) Vote!” Mike Fenn on life after college and the recent election. “The Widener 40th Anniversary Celebration” Story about the November 1st event for WDNR alumni and current WDNR staff. Entertainment included a Pink Floyd tribute band. “Some Random Facts” From www.strangefacts.net . “Campus Opinion” Four students respond to question: What is your favorite thing about Thanksgiving? “The Great Smokeout” This is a nationwide event held this year on November 30th, to encourage smokers to quit. “Black Friday Madness” Written from the perspective of student who is a store employee who generally likes Black Friday. “Sports Speakers Provide Words of Encouragement” November 10th presentation hosted by School of Business titled “Selling Sports like Soap” for Sports Management students. “Widener Art Gallery Welcomes the Coalition Ingenu” The Coalition Ingenu is a nonprofit group. Exhibit runs until December 6th. Story includes color photo of artist Justin Duerr with his paintings. “December and January Student Life Campus Events” List of events.
