“163 Attend Alumni Banquet; Cecil B. DeMille Recalls the Day When He Rode Bicycle to PMC”
Overview of the events of the annual Mid-Winter Banquet of the PMC Alumni Association on Friday, February 10 at the Penn Sherwood Hotel in Philadelphia. Speakers included toast-master Jim Campbell, RCA Vice-President and principal speaker Manie Sacks, President of the Board of Trustees Lloyd Goman, and President of the College Maj. Gen. Edward E. MacMorland. Distinguished guests included the oldest graduate in attendance, Frank M. Feaster (1888); and a letter was read as sent by alumnus and movie producer Cecil B. deMille.
“Cadets Switch From Ponies to Flying Planes”

Announcement of the introduction of a pre-flight ground training program at PMC. The program will include instruction in aerodynamics, navigation, meteorology, and orientation. John (Jack) Driscoll is the acting squadron commander and William Bell (’42) is executive officer.
“James H. (Ma) Beach, PMC Professor for 25 Years Dies in California; Death Also Comes to Dr. Lowy”
Professor James Beach (retired ’46) died at the age of 84 on Feb. 4 in Long Beach California. Internationally known hydraulic engineer and assistant professor of engineering from 1947 – 1953, Dr. Robert Lowy died Jan. 24 at the age of 72.

Frederick C. Galigher (1886) died Feb. 17 1956 in Cairo, Ill. Albert H. Atterbury (1876), former member of the College Board of Trustees died Nov. 21, 1955.

Special master of civil trials in Philadelphia Common Pleas Court and PMC alumnus (class of 1916) A. Carson Simpson stepped down from the Board of Trustees after 15 years because of conflicts with work scheduling.

Matthew C. Bauman and Robert L. Wolen were added as instructors in electrical engineering and chemistry respectively.
“Don DeForrest Relinquishes Swimming Post”
One-time world record holder for the 100 yard and 100 meter breast stroke and PMC swimming coach Don M. DeForrest resigned as swimming coach due to business commitments.
“Stern Speaker for Banquet”
Sports director for the National Broadcasting Company Bill Stern (’30) will be the principal speaker at the annual PMC athletic banquet on Tuesday May 8.
